I don’t play Star Wars Battlefront for Blast or Droid Run. I play it for the epic moments and battles in Walker Assault and Supremacy. Star Wars Battlefront shines during huge battles that take advantage of every weapon, vehicle and power up.
DICE is building on these core 40-player modes by introducing a new one – Turning Point.
Turning Point releases alongside the free DLC – The Battle of Jakku.
Battlefront’s Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall describes the mode:
“At the edge of the map, the Empire has constructed a makeshift base as well as smaller fortifications strewn across the landscape. Following an emergency landing, the Rebels need to locate the enemy bases to attack and take control of them all.”
The Rebels are tasked with locating and capturing one of three control points controlled by the Empire. And it’s a race against the clock. Once one control point is captured, more time is added and a new set of control points will be available for capture. The last control point will be at the make-shift Imperial base.
On paper, it sounds cool. Multiple control points should help matches play out a bit differently each time. It’s good to see the Empire get a mode where it’s on defense. Walker Assault is pretty much a guaranteed win for Rebels now.
DICE promises another visual treat with The Battle of Jakku. On the large map – Graveyard of Giants – “debris will be falling from the skies, and you’ll even see a Super Star Destroyer come crashing down during the round.”
How Turning Point will play?
Don’t expect to dominate the skies in an X-Wing or TIE Fighter. Rebels can support their push into Imperial territory with airspeeders. Imperials will use an AT-ST to help defend their control points.

For instance: once the Rebels have started taking over a control point, it can’t be reclaimed by the Empire. Let’s say there’s only 25% left of the claim process and the Empire has managed to drive away the Rebels. This means that the Empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map. The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be.
Turning Point is a welcome and much-needed addition to Star Wars Battlefront. I love the game so far, but I agree with many people’s complaints about the lack of modes and maps. Mainly maps. Four maps just aren’t enough for Walker Assault. Imagine if Battlefield 4 launched with just four Conquest maps? Yeah, no one would be happy. Same principle here.
DICE should look at adding another free map and mode or two besides their season pass. Maybe give us more maps inspired by The Force Awakens.
