The first of two major expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming on October 13th. Developer CD Projekt Red describes Hearts of Stone as over 10 hours of new adventures and a fresh storyline shaped by choices you make. Check out our first glimpse of this story in the teaser below.
You are tasked with killing Olgierd von Everec
Witchers are best known for their monster slaying skills, but regular old humans fall just as easy. Olgierd isn’t your average person, though. The bandit captain is immortal. I’m guessing we’re going to need some new blade oils.
There’s also some old faces. The guy asking Geralt if he wants his help in the trailer is Gaunter O’Dim.
He’s one of the first people you ask about Yennefer’s whereabouts. I’m pretty sure he’s in the tavern at White Orchard. O’Dim is also known by another name – “Man of Glass.” When CD Projekt Red first announced Hearts of Stone, they mentioned Geralt would be completing a contract from the “Man of Glass.”
Besides a new story, CD Projekt Red is also adding a new gameplay mechanic. It’s called Runewords. Details are a bit light, but the developer says each Runeword will impact a different aspect of in-game mechanics. You’ll be able to experiment with new tactics and strategies as you take on Olgierd von Everec and various monsters.
A Limited Boxed Edition of Hearts of Stone is Coming
Most expansions these days are digital only. But, Hearts of Stone is getting a limited boxed edition at select retailers worldwide. Fans have been clamoring for physical Gwent cards and CD Projekt Red has listened. Inside the boxed edition includes a digital download code for the expansion and two unique sets of Gwent cards, Monsters and Scoia’tael. A detailed manual is included in case you need a refresher on the rules. The limited boxed edition costs $19.99. It’s $9.99 for just the expansion.
Already have the expansion pass, but still want the Gwent cards? CD Projekt Red has you covered. Head on over the RedeemGweent.com to find out how you can get your hands on the pair of Gwent decks.
Hearts of Stone is the first of two planned expansions. Blood & Wine is the other one and is expected to be much larger. No specific release date has been given for the second expansion but expect it sometime early next year.
