Update: Turns out, Zombies will be a separate mode. Activision also clarified and said a season pass purchase is not required to get them. It won’t be free, but you won’t need to pay $50 for it either. Standalone packs have generally gone for around $15 for Call of Duty DLC in the past.
Ah, the season pass. Why stop at just $60 for a game? Video game companies, especially those that are publicly traded, are always on the lookout for ways to make more money. And, the Season Pass has turned into a winner for them.
As expected, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has a season pass. What wasn’t expected is that Zombies would be placed behind the additional paywall. That’s what a GameStop press release said yesterday. Here’s a portion of the press release below.
This just in, Zombies are back as part of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare season pass! Stop by any GameStop to pick up one of the most anticipated games to launch this year, along with 4-multiplayer map packs, Atlas Gorge, and yes – ZOMBIES.
I’m all for adding new maps and new modes, but not taking modes that have been available in the past and placing them behind a Season Pass. It’s a cheap way to pad season pass sales.
Before I slam Activision too much, there is some uncertainty around the Zombies mode. Will it be like Treyarch’s popular mode from World at War/Black Ops, or will it just be an addition to Advanced Warfare’s Exo Survival co-op mode?
The past tells us only Treyarch titles have had the signature ‘Zombies’ mode. I’m leaning towards the zombies being an addition to the Exo Survival co-op mode.
What do you think?
