The Battlefield theme is one of the best out there. Every trailer it’s blasted in instantly elevates the footage shown. With Battlefield V now playable via EA’s subscription services, DICE unveiled the launch trailer. And with it, the theme returns.
Man, that theme gives me goosebumps every time.
We can all agree Battlefield V’s road to this point was rough. And that’s probably an understatement. The early marketing was bad. There’s no other way around it. I wanted gameplay, and getting it took a bit longer than I was expecting. But after playing the closed alpha and beta, I was sold. Battlefield’s fantastic gunplay was here along with lots of new extras.
When I heard EA pushed the Battlefield V play first trial up a day, I fired up my Xbox One X and started the download. I was ready to jump right into the multiplayer. But DICE had a little something special cooked up before I even got to the main menu screen.
A prologue shows you (and lets you briefly take control) the different battles and locales DICE is focusing on with Battlefield V. Actor Mark Strong solemnly narrates as we shift from nighttime raids in Norway to tank battles in Africa and air combat over Europe.
My ‘woah’ moment was taking control of a German fighter above dozens of allied bombers. It feels (and looks like) it was stripped straight out of a movie. We all know what DICE’s Frostbite engine can deliver, but even now it can still deliver a few ‘holy crap’ moments.
DICE describes Battlefield V as “World War 2 like you’ve never seen or played before.” They’re right about the first part. We’ve never seen World War 2 look like this.
I hope Battlefield V’s War Stories can live up to the prologue hype. I already know the multiplayer will.
