Fortnite Devs Agree the SMGs are Too Strong, Deploy Hotfix

Epic Games saw the pushback from the Fortnite community about SMGs and agreed. “They’re stronger than we would like at the moment,” says Epic in a Reddit post announcing the changes.

A hotfix was just deployed tweaking the stats for SMGs. Let’s take a look.

SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%.
SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19.
Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22.
SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12.
Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10.
SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff.
Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000.
Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%.
Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.

Hotfixes don’t require downtime, so you’ll see the changes right away. The folks at Epic will keep tabs on the changes and wants players to keep giving them feedback.

I’m also curious to see if Epic will do anything about the nerf to the building mechanics. I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of folks throwing up huge forts instantly – but I understand it’s the game’s big hook.

After the recent building nerf, the low initial health for building meant you could spray any structures down just as quick as the other player could throw it up. I get the sense Epic is trying to find a balance that appeases both sets of players. Those of us who are awesome at building. And those of us who aren’t. I do think they may have gone too far with the building nerfs, though.

I wonder if increasing the amount of ammo that spawns would be a better solution. Half my problem with the building mechanics are I seldom have enough ammo to tear it down and also kill the person building.

The great thing about Fortnite is Epic will listen and tweak the game in a hurry. But I also think Epic isn’t going to react as quickly to the building changes as they did with the SMG. Or hell, maybe this time tomorrow we’ll be talking about how Epic hotfixed building. We’ll see.

What do you think of the changes to the SMGs? Also, how do you feel about the recent changes to the building mechanics?
