Could Titanfall Have a Single Player in the Future?

Respawn’s not ruling it out. In a recent chat with GameInformer, Respawn Entertainment Chief Operating Officer Dusty Welch had this to say about a traditional single-player story in the future for Titanfall.

“Would I rule it out for the future? Certainly not,” Welch said.

Any single-player experience would not come at the expense of Titanfall’s multiplayer, though.

“I think that there’s a lot of reward in continuing to push the paradigm that Titanfall introduced, which is this always connected, real live visceral multiplayer universe. We learned a lot, and I think it’s up to us to think about how we apply the learning to make the next game even more expansive and more engaging than the first.”

One area Respawn could possibly expand to is eSports. “eSports is something that, as a developer, we are really keen on tracking,” Welch said.

Welch went on today say that he doesn’t know if Respawn will do it for sure.

“I think it would be interesting to take some more steps in the eSports direction. I don’t know if we will, though.”

“I think it’s certainly something that the audience is begging for, and it gives us a lot of encouragement thinking beyond this current Titanfall and into the future,” said Welch.

The fact he even mentions it is a good sign for competitive players.

eSports has blown up in recent years thanks to the MOBA genre on PC. But, growth is hitting consoles with Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox One. That title was recently featured at XGames in Austin and just wrapped up a major tournament in Anaheim. There’s a lot of interest in eSports around the gaming community. Call of Duty is the main shooter right now, but there’s room for more.

The future of Titanfall will probably bring it to PS4. EA signed a new agreement with Respawn back in May for more Titanfall “experiences.” No new Titanfall games have been announced yet, but I would be surprised if it doesn’t hit Sony’s newest platform on the next go around.

Welch also touches on free updates for Titanfall and its PC community in the interview with GameInformer. Check it out here.
