EA is Bringing Command & Conquer Back the Way Fans Wanted

Raise your hand if you wanted a Command & Conquer mobile game? Anybody? What about a remastered collection packed with Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, and the expansions? That’s right; EA is bringing the old Command & Conquer games back. And it’s not just the old games making a return either. EA is partnering with the former developers to make it happen.

Many of the old developers from Westwood Studios that created Command & Conquer are now at Petroglyph Games. Today, EA announced they are teaming up with the RTS experts at Petroglyph to bring these classics back.

Hey EA, since you have the Star Wars license too, how about adding Star Wars: Empire at War in as a bonus?

From EA’s blog post:

“Today, I’m thrilled to tell you we are going back to the beginning. We have decided to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the Red Alert universe. So, we will also remaster the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert™. But what about the classic expansion packs you may ask – Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath? Well, C&C and Red Alert wouldn’t be the same without them, so all three expansion packs will be bundled with the base games into one remastered collection – without microtransactions.”

Damn EA, you know you go a little too hard with microtransactions when you out of your way to mention they will not be coming in a remastered collection.

EA is also bringing in Lemon Sky Studios to update the games to 4K. You might not recognize the studio, but they helped Blizzard upgrade the art in StarCraft’s remaster.

Ok, so when will we get our hands on one of the best RTS games ever made? Unfortunately, this is a true announcement. The folks at Petroglyph are just beginning to figure out what they want to do before development kicks off. But that also means die-hard C&C fans can give their input to the team. And it’s something Petroglyph’s Joe Bostic asks for in a Reddit post.

“As we begin to craft the plan that will kick off the development phase of the project I’m eager to hear what else fans are looking for. If you could turn back the clock, what would you have wanted in the original C&C games? How true to a remaster should we adhere do? What modern improvements can be added without deviating from the core game? Balance changes? We will be starting development soon, so now is the time to let your voice be heard.”

Command & Conquer and Warcraft III remasters? I can’t wait.
