Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2015 Conference Recap: The Games

Microsoft just wrapped up its E3 conference, and there is a lot to digest. I’ll cover just the games in this post.

Halo 5: Guardians

Microsoft kicked it off with Halo 5: Guardians and it looks fantastic. Scale was a keyword emphasized over and over.

The demo was from the perspective of Spartan Locke and the Osiris fireteam. You’re on the hunt for Master Chief. Arbiter helps you out by distracting the Covenant. We see a handful of engagements with the Prometheans before a montage of other campaign moments. It’s Halo, and it’s awesome.

343 also revealed Warzone. Described as ‘player versus everything’ you and 23 other players will duke it out against each other and more.

October 27th can’t come soon enough for Halo fans.

Recore

A game developed by key creative members behind Metroid Prime? I’m already interested. Check out the first trailer below.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 wowed at last night’s Bethesda conference. The news gets even better for Xbox One fans. Any mod created on the PC version of Fallout 4 will be playable on Xbox One. Ok, that’s pretty damn cool.

Will the same apply to PS4? We’ll find out tonight.

If you missed what all the fuss is about surrounding Fallout 4, just watch.

If you buy Fallout 4, you’ll also get a token for Fallout 3 on Xbox One.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

One of the most underrated shooters on this generation of consoles is getting a sequel. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is coming in spring of 2016. Here’s the first trailer.

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 needs no introduction. The much-loved Dark Souls title is coming in early 2016. A European press release says Dark Souls 3 will be the last in the Dark Souls series.

“The DARK SOULS brand became a phenomenon thanks to amazing work from our dear partners FromSoftware and our very own BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment teams”. said Herve Hoerdt, Vice President of Marketing & Digital at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe. “But above all, we are blessed to have such a supportive and loving community, and we are happy to dedicate this final episode to them!”

Rainbow Six: Siege

Ubisoft announced the next title in the popular Rainbow Six franchise is coming on October 13, 2015. Buy it and you’ll score copies of Rainbow Six Vegas and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

Ashen

Ashen is a beautiful action RPG coming to Xbox One and PC. I love the creativity indie developers bring to the gaming industry.

Cuphead

The aesthetics of a 1930s cartoon mixed with old school platforming? Meet Cuphead. I never thought a side-scrolling platformer that looks like an old cartoon could look so damn interesting. Studio MDHR nails the look. Cuphead will hit Xbox One and PC in 2016.

Ion

Dean Hall, one of the masterminds behind Day Z, unveiled a MMO at Microsoft’s conference.

The game is described as an “emergent narrative massively-multiplayer online game in which players will build, live in and inevitably die in huge floating galactic constructions as humanity makes its first steps colonizing the universe.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Lara is back and this time she’s climbing snow covered mountains. Did you like the cinematic aspects of the Tomb Raider reboot in 2013? Rise of the Tomb Raider looks to continue that trend. Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to Xbox One in December. Here’s the demo.

I like it, just give us more tomb raiding.

Sea of Thieves

Rare announced Rare Replay, a collection of 30 Rare games for 30 bucks.

But, it was their other announcement that has me even more excited.

Meet Sea of Thieves. Imagine the best parts of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, but with your friends. I can’t throw my money at Rare any harder.

Forza 6

1080p, 60fps, stunning graphics, 24 players and trademark Forza gameplay. Racing fans will be pleased.

Gears of War 4 and Gears of War Ultimate Edition

Rod Fergusson was on hand to talk Gears of War. Want your Gears right now? A Gears of War Ultimate Edition beta is available for one week starting today.

Fergusson also gave us our first look at Gears of War 4. What’s there looks decent, but we don’t know much about Gears of War 4.

Indies

Here’s a montage of several indie games coming to Xbox One.

I think I touched on every game shown at Microsoft’s conference. I’m still coming off my high after that backwards compatibility announcement and controller (I’ll be talking about those in my next post). What did you think of Microsoft’s conference? Let me know in the comments below.
