2014 is gone as of midnight tonight. That means one thing. Anticipating the movies of 2015. For comic book and sci-fi fans, 2015 is shaping up to be a banner year. Toss in some Jurassic Park and the conclusion to Hunger Games, and it could be a record setting box office year. Hollywood could stand it after a dismal 2014.
Fandango conducted a survey of the most anticipated releases for 2015, and one thing is clear. Disney is going to make their investors incredibly happy. The two most anticipated releases are owned by the company.
Come on. You know you want to watch this. The teaser trailer was played on repeat for days on my computer. X-Wings. TIE Fighters. The Falcon. A badass looking Sith. Day 1 baby.
Hype has already hit critical mass, and rumors are flying. What do we know? John Boyega and Daisy Ridley will have pivotal roles in the new trilogy. That droid on a soccer ball will outsell everything next Christmas. And JJ Abrams has more security than the President surrounding the script.
Mark those calendars. December 17, 2015 will be an awesome day for Star Wars fans.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
We are all puppets, marching along to whatever spectacle Marvel brings us. May 1, 2015 will see the return of Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, The Hulk and Captain America. Toss in the additions of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver and James Spader as Ultron and Marvel is looking at a billion dollar plus payday.
Fans will be especially keen on the final credits. Will we get a tease for the two-part Infinity War? Anything on Marvel’s Civil War? Is it bad I’m just as excited for the credits as I am the movie?
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
The conclusion to the Hunger Games saga is set for November 20. Jennifer Lawrence will grab her bow as Katniss Everdeen one last time. Fans of the movies should snap up the blu ray of part one before hitting the theaters. This movie will focus heavily on the second half of the third book.
It continues Hollywood’s unfortunate path of breaking up the final movie into two parts. At least it’s not as blatant as the Hobbit, but still.
Fifty Shades of Grey
If you’re curious about why your girlfriend / wife disappeared on February 13 and now has a sudden fascination with ropes and whips, quit asking questions. Just go with it. Those that just need to know, this is the release date of the movie adaptation of Fifty Shade of Grey.
Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele’s story is making the leap from book to silver screen. Will it be good? I don’t think that matters at this point. The book sold over 100 million copies, and is the only original property in the top 5.
It looks like they spared no expense on getting the Jurassic Park series back in theaters. However, they did waste a lot of damn time. Want to feel old? The original film came out 22 years ago.
The initial sequels were a let down for fans, and Jurassic World is hoping to recapture the magic with breakout star, Chris Pratt. You’ll know him from Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie comes complete with a Sea World-like attraction with a mosasaurus, Chris Pratt as a raptor wrangler and a new, intelligent hybrid dinosaur.
I never said it would make sense, just grab your popcorn and settle in. Jurassic World releases wide on June 12, 2015.
There you have it. Fandango’s top-5. What about you? Any movies you are looking forward to that didn’t make the top five?
