The Fortnite craze is holding steady after the release of two of the biggest games. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 joined the battle royale craze a couple of weeks ago which helped revitalize the biggest shooter franchise out there. But even Blackout couldn’t knock Fortnite off its throne.
Here’s a look at the top 10 on Xbox’s Most Played chart:

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
3. Red Dead Redemption 2
4. NBA 2K19
5. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
6. Destiny 2
7. GTA V
8. Roblox
9. PUBG
10. Madden NFL 19
Toppling Fortnite was always going to be a tough hill to climb. Epic is doing a fantastic job keeping the game relevant with update after update. And it caters to all ages. Plus, it’s free to play. There’s not a $60 barrier to entry hanging over it.
That’s not to say Black Ops 4 doesn’t have a chance to grab the top spot eventually. Black Friday and Christmas would probably be its best chance. If it can’t do it then, it won’t.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is debuting strong at the #3 spot. I believe the chart takes gameplay time into account with the rankings and updates every Monday. That means Red Dead had just three days to jump on the chart. A fantastic showing for Rockstar.
Right now, Rockstar has two games in the top 10. It’ll be interesting to see if that continues once Red Dead Online launches in beta next month. It wouldn’t shock me to see both games stay extremely popular. Both have drastically different settings. Plus, the GTA V player base has invested a whole bunch of time (and money) into their favorite game. They won’t leave it quickly.
The rest of the top 10 looks like it has for months. PUBG’s slide to #9 is notable. It seems like it felt the Blackout affect more than Fortnite. Which makes sense. Those games audiences are more likely to overlap.
Other recent releases are just outside the top 10. Forza Horizon 4 is sitting at #12 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at #13.
One crazy stat from looking at the entire top 50 chart is the strength of the Call of Duty franchise still. There are five Call of Duty games in the top 50: Black Ops 4, WWII, Black Ops 3, Black Ops 2, and Infinite Warfare.
Player count?
Unfortunately, Xbox doesn’t give us actual numbers like Steam’s Stats page does. But a couple of Battlefield websites shows us that all 50 games have healthy populations.
Battlefield 1 sits at #27. A quick peek at BF1stats.com shows a peak 24-hour player count of 14,162 on Xbox One.
And Battlefield 4 gives us a floor. It’s usually on the top 50 chart near the bottom but isn’t here this time. BF4stats.com shows a 24-hour peak player count of 6,289 players.
If you’re looking for multiplayer/co-op games where you’ll have no problems finding a match, Xbox’s most played chart is an excellent place to start.
