What’s Going On in That ‘Mortal Kombat 11’ Trailer?

The Game Awards stretched a little too long last night, but we did get some solid game reveals. One of them was a brutal Mortal Kombat 11 trailer. Props to the folks handling the insane CGI, but man that music choice was jarring. Especially when the original theme is one of the more iconic ones out there.

Yep, that looks like two Scorpions to me. Some are speculating that it’s a glimpse of tag-team returning. But the game’s description points to what’s likely going on:

The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own. The new graphics engine showcasing every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, brings you so close to the fight you can feel it. And featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat’s best in class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.

We see two Scorpions wearing different outfits. And we also see Raiden change after taking a sword to the chest. He appears to become a corrupted version with red lightning erupting from his body.

The trailer wraps up with a mysterious woman standing next to a massive hourglass going in reverse hinting at some sort of time warp.

The Mortal Kombat 11 diehards (myself included) won’t have to wait long to get our hands on the game. April 23 is the launch with a huge community reveal event set for January 17.
