Respawn Nixes Apex Legends Reconnect Feature Idea, Focusing on Stability

Battle Royale games like PUBG and Ring of Elysium allow you to reconnect to matches if your game crashes or internet disconnects. Apex Legends didn’t launch with this feature and is unlikely to get it. Despite players asking for this feature, the devs (Respawn) “are currently not pursuing this for a couple reasons.”

One, Respawn thinks players could abuse the feature. And two, they believe the time and resources spent building a reconnect feature would be better used focused on ironing out stability problems. Their idea is to attack the problem at the source, so a reconnect feature isn’t needed. That sounds good but still doesn’t address disconnects tied to network issues.

Speaking of network issues, Respawn also talked about slow server performance at the beginning of matches. Anyone who has played a decent bit has seen it. Apex Legends’ normally fast gameplay grinds to a halt. Unfortunately, it’s not a problem Respawn can throw money at.

From Respawn:

“If this could be fixed by spending money on faster/more servers we would do it, but unfortunately there is no silver bullet on this one. We’re just rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We’ll keep you updated on any progress we make.”

The vast majority of my matches have run fine. But man, when the network issues hit – they really do hit. Hopefully, Respawn gets to the bottom of what’s causing the problems soon.

In the same Reddit post, Respawn touched on cheaters. As with any popular game, cheating is a big problem (especially free-to-play games). But the sheer number of them always surprises me. So far, 355,000+ players have been banned on PC.

Respawn promises to be vigilant against cheaters as they are scaling up their anti-cheat team and adding a report feature on PC. They won’t 100% get rid of cheaters, but it’s good to hear they are staying on top of it.

Now, where’s that Battle Pass Respawn?
