Apex Legends Brings Back Cinematic Flair For Season 2 Launch Trailer

One of my favorite gaming trailers of 2019 is the cinematic launch trailer for Apex Legends. The cel-shaded art style looks so good, and it makes you wish the folks at Respawn leaned more into it with the actual gameplay art. Here’s the first cinematic trailer if you missed it.

That fantastic art style returns and is refined for the launch trailer for Season 2. We get a look at most of the new additions coming on July 2 including the new gun, new Legend and changes to the map. Let’s give it a watch.

Man, that art style is so good. Hell, give me an Apex Legends movie or TV show with this same art style. Better yet, put it in the game.

Season 2 is bringing a whole bunch of new content and updates. From map changes and weapon tweaks to a new Legend. Let’s do a quick break down on the big stuff.

Wattson brings a defensive toolset. Wattson will be the newest addition to the Legend roster. Her abilities center around supporting the rest of the team.

Tactical Ability – Perimeter Security: Connect nodes to create electrified fences that damage and slow enemies.

Passive Ability – Spark of Genius: Ultimate Accelerants fully charge your Ultimate Ability, and standing near interception pylons boost your Tactical Ability recharge.

Ultimate Ability – Interception Pylon: Place an electrified pylon that destroys incoming ordnance and repairs damaged shields as long as it stands. (Max: 3)

For a game that prides itself on its fast pace, Wattson’s toolset could bring quick rushes to a halt. And it’ll be interesting to see how the meta plays out. Will the Interception Pylons be easy to destroy with gunfire? And the Interception Pylon isn’t just handy against throwables. It’ll also protect against Gibraltar’s airstrike. You can see it in action at 1:30 in the gameplay trailer for Season 2 below.

“Kings Canyon will never be the same.” The folks at Respawn are going the Fortnite route. Instead of multiple maps, we’re going to see changes to the existing. Many of the new changes can be seen in the gameplay trailer above.

See how you stack up in ranked mode. See how you stack up across six ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Apex Predator. I’m a sucker for a ranked mode if it’s good. It helps players get better without getting stomped on by the best. Hopefully, Respawn does a good job implementing it.

Skydive emotes. Yeah, I groaned when I first read about them – but I’m on board after seeing them in action.

I stopped playing Apex Legends about a couple of months ago to play some new releases, but I’m ready to jump back in and give Season 2 a go.
