Ori and the Blind Forest is going portable. The outstanding platformer will make its Nintendo Switch debut on September 27. Here’s the announcement trailer.
I’ve played through it twice and will probably give a third run a go soon. Moon Studios brings together stunning visuals, a fantastic soundtrack, and platforming gameplay that’s even better into one of the best games to hit in recent years.
But how will Ori and the Blind Forest run on Nintendo Switch? While it’s docked, you’ll enjoy 1080p at 60 frames per second. Undocked (playing it portable) takes a bit of a hit in the resolution department with a drop to 720p, but Moon Studios keeps the frame rate at 60 frames per second.
What’s inside the Definitive Edition? If you only played Ori and the Blind Forest when it first came out, there is some new stuff packed in this edition. Two new environments (Black Root Burrows and Lost Grove) were designed to take advantage of a pair of new abilities (Dash and Light Burst). There’s also new story content, new music from Gareth Coker, and quality of life improvements like fast travel. It’s definitely worth giving Ori another playthrough. Plus, you can now play it on the go or while you’re laying around in bed with Switch.
Xbox Live support and achievements. With Xbox Game Studios bringing the game over to Switch, that means Xbox Live support and achievements are in. It still seems crazy to see Nintendo and Xbox teaming up so much. It’ll be interesting to see how far this partnership goes. Will we see the premiere Xbox franchises start making the Switch? Ori and the Blind Forest is a fantastic addition to the Switch library, but what about Halo, Gears, Forza? If they could somehow pull off Forza Horizon on Switch and it runs well, I would be there day one.
