Apex Legends Looks Beyond King’s Canyon For Season 3

Apex Legends Season 3 won’t be bringing small tweaks to King’s Canyon. Instead, Respawn is shipping the Legends to a new world called Talos. And once again, Respawn shows off their trailer making chops.

It’s a damn shame the art style from these trailers isn’t better represented in the actual gameplay.

The YouTube description gives us a little background on where we are heading when Season 3 hits October 1.

Welcome to World’s Edge, a new Apex Legends map where molten heat and chemical ice collide. Join our cast of Legends – including the newest Legend, Crypto – on the dropship as they’re whisked from Planet Solace towards World’s Edge on Planet Talos.

The trailer also confirms leaks that Crypto is the next Legend.

It looks like Respawn is repurposing a piece of lore from the canceled Titanfall Online game. In that game, TALOS (Terraforming & Automated Life-control Operating System) was a renegade AI that could alter the weather. With the stark contrast of ice and lava, it looks like a similar system is at work here.

I’m really digging the train cutting through the map shown in the trailer. Hopefully, it’s part of the gameplay too. Playing the same map over and over again inevitably gets old, but adding dynamic elements like this goes a long way into keeping matches fresh.

Releasing a new map was the right call for Respawn. The devs have said they are aiming for “quality of content over novelty or speed of release.” And they also want to avoid crunch and burnout for their developers.

An entirely new map gets me much more excited than a small tweak to an existing map. Plus, we get to avoid the mad rush to see one small area right after it’s added. That last event with the new Wraith facility was a bit much.

October 1 was going to be all about Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, but it’s going to have to share with Apex Legends now.
