Black Ops 4 Boards the Battle Royale Train and It’s Called Blackout

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 joins the battle royale craze with a mode of its own developer Treyarch revealed today. It’s called Blackout and pulls characters from all across the Black Ops franchise. Yep, that includes the cast from the Zombies mode. A short trailer lacks the gameplay we all want but gives us an idea of what the map will look like.

From Treyarch:

Play as fan favorite characters and battle through iconic settings from the Black Ops universe. It’s a collision course bringing together the worlds of Black Ops in an all-out survival and elimination experience featuring weapons; equipment; land, sea, and air vehicles; RC-XDs; traps; and even Zombies in an experience that is uniquely Black Ops.

During the reveal event, only characters from Zombies was mentioned, but the YouTube description makes it sound like actual Zombies could also be included.

I can already imagine the unique modes Treyarch could do with Blackout. Killstreaks enabled. Sticks and Stones only. Zombie hordes. I say go all in. Shake things up.

According to Treyarch, Blackout brings “iconic parts of your favorite maps” together in one giant map.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Blackout, though. Is it 100 players? How do the Black Ops 4 multiplayer mechanics tie together? Does equipment include Specialist abilities? How overpowered are the vehicles?

I’m pumped to see more. I want to see what Call of Duty can bring to the table. How it will stand out from the two behemoths in gaming that are PUBG and Fortnite

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is coming October 12, and it likely won’t be the only AAA game packing a battle royale mode this year.
