Hey, a reality show I will watch. Yes, Bear Grylls has had his share of controversies. And his old Discovery Channel show routinely grossed me out. Sorry folks, I would have made a lousy Fear Factor contestant. Yeah, bro, I’m not eating that…

President Obama is taping an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls. Grylls, the President, along with Secret Service, mountain warfare units and spec ops will be going on a trek through the Alaskan wilderness.

Just because you won’t see the ring of military surrounding the President doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

Neither NBC or the White House is commenting on when the taping will begin, but President Obama is taking a trip to Alaska to call attention to climate change and its impact on the wilds of Alaska.

The episode, set to air this fall, will feature the two trekking somewhere on the mainland. Want some serious views? Head to Adak, AK. Ok, maybe not the majestic views, but trust me when I say it earns its name as the birthplace of the wind.

Running Wild is into its second season and features the survivalist being paired with celebrities. Everyone from Zac Efron to Kate Winslet to Drew Brees has been on the program.

It’s dialed back from his ‘I just ate a dead zebra’ days and mainly teaches the celebrities survival skills and puts them in ‘situations’ designed to make them uncomfortable. Sorry Bear, there will be a ring of special forces who also eat dead zebras watching him.

The episode will call attention to climate change and its impact on the area, so cue the groans. Good Lord, is that snow on the mountain still? What do you have to say about that scientists?

Unfortunately for President Obama, there’s not a golf course where he’s going. He’ll have to wait till he gets back to DC for a round of 18. You know a few days with Bear beats a year having to stare at Mitch McConnell.

Let’s set aside politics for a night and enjoy the president out in the wilds of Alaska. Living on an Aleutian island, you just can’t match Alaska for jaw-dropping scenery and weather that will turn on a dime.

The move by President Obama further entrenches himself as a President willing to go outside the normal media realm to reach his audience. He appeared on a memorable Between Two Ferns skit with Zach Galifianakis, the WTF podcast with Marc Maron and is now eating who knows what with Bear Grylls.

I feel for Bear. You know he was thinking of roasting whatever that is on Donald Trump’s head.
