Simon Pegg is a busy man on the Enterprise. Not only is he keeping the warp core stable, he has to get started on the script for Star Trek 3. Scotty (Simon Pegg) is teaming up with co-writer Don Jung for the third film. Couple that with Justin Lin in the director’s chair, and we should be in for a spectacle.

Most fans know Pegg’s work in front of the camera, but he has a stable of co-writing credits. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and World’s End are all films he co-wrote.

Don Jung is best known for the short-lived TNT series, Dark Blue. In addition to the TNT series, he has episodic credits for Big Love and Banshee. He came to the attention of Paramount’s brass after he worked on an unproduced – so far – project under J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot umbrella.

Star Trek 3 has been in turmoil in recent months. Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two Star Trek films, had been tapped for directing and script duties. He stepped down this past December after reports emerged the studio was concerned over the direction of his script.

What do you think? Some fans are pushing back afraid this will turn into a slapstick comedy. Personally, I think Paramount will keep the duo focused and turn in something akin to the first film over the special effects-laden sequel.
