LeVar Burton’s mission to revive “Reading Rainbow” is already a success. Today, it gets even bigger. Burton took to the Kickstarter page to make the announcement. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will match all future donations up to $1 million.
“Over the next five remaining days of the campaign, Seth has agreed to match dollar for dollar every pledge made up to $1 million,” Burton says in a video update. “It’s going to give us the ability to give the Reading Rainbow product away to many more classrooms in need. This is huge!”
What’s that mean exactly for Reading Rainbow? Right now, pledges stand at $4.1 million. Eclipsing $5 million means Reading Rainbow comes to more platforms and 7,500 classrooms. Throw in Seth’s million to $6 million and Reading Rainbow reaches an additional 5,000 classrooms.
What is Reading Rainbow? It was a television series that aired on PBS from 1983 to 2006. The TV show was aimed at encouraging kids to read. Two years ago, Burton released the Reading Rainbow App for tablets. This Kickstarter campaign is aimed at expanding Reading Rainbow everywhere. Reading Rainbow’s vision? “Every child, everywhere.”
