How do you know the 2016 race is heating up? The third-tier candidates are popping up on the interview circuit. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was on ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ last night to promote his book – ‘God, Guns, Grits and Gravy’ – and to tease a possible 2016 bid.
Personally? I go gravy before grits. But, that’s just me.
Huckabee also gave up his Fox News show to explore a potential run. Jon Stewart hit on the same thing everyone has been thinking. “Let me tell you something,” Stewart leaned in and said. “Go back and beg them for your job back. You have made a terrible, terrible mistake. What are you doing?”
That was my exact thought when he first dropped his show for what he calls a ‘very likely, very possible’ White House run. About the only thing possible there is a potential VP slot. Especially if Bush or Romney win the top of the ticket.
It wouldn’t be a conservative interview without a dig at President Obama. Huckabee was known for calling out the Obamas as bad parents for letting their daughters listen to Beyonce.
“Young girls want to be like her,” Huckabee said. “Do you know any parent who has a daughter who says, ‘Honey, if you make really good grades, someday, when you’re 12 or 13, we’ll get you your own stripper pole.’ I mean, come on, Jon, we don’t do that in our culture.”
Granted, that smacks of the old rock music hate, but it is funny. He has the old white guy mentality coupled with the ‘aww shucks’ attitude. Will he win the GOP primary? Not a chance, but at least the 600 GOP debates will be entertaining.
