Who needs E3? Microsoft brought the goods early this morning with the announcement of Halo 5: Guardians. Halo 5 will release in the fall of 2015. 343 Industries is looking to deliver a Halo game that “runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade.”
Halo 5: Guardians will be powered by a brand new engine. Everyone pretty much assumed that, but it’s nice to know for sure.
Bonnie Ross of 343 Industries also teased 2015 is “the opportunity to invite old and new audiences into that universe through the ‘Halo’ television series.”
While 2015 seems a bit far off, Ross says there is reason to be excited for 2014. Microsoft and 343 Industries have repeatedly said your ‘journey’ begins in 2014. The leading theory is that a remastered Halo 2 Anniversary edition will be released this fall. We shall see exactly where this ‘journey’ takes us on June 9.
As for the TV series, reports say Microsoft is in negotiations with ShowTime for the Halo series. I’m always down for a sci-fi show. One based on the Halo series is even better. E3 seems like a good spot for concrete details on the Halo TV series.
E3 must be stacked for Microsoft to be tossing out these announcements this week. Sony has been quiet for the most part, but expect them to bring their own heavy hitters in June. No matter which console you have, E3 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ones in recent memory.
