The next entry in the Deus Ex franchise – Deus Ex: Mankind Divided – is coming on February 23, 2016. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst on the same date? Hell yeah.
In today’s release date announcement, Eidos-Montreal/Square Enix also unveiled a pre-order program called, “Augment your Pre-order.” You know the marketing team is patting themselves on the back with this one. Pre-order incentives are nothing new. They’ve been around for years, and will be around for many more.
Square Enix is changing it up a bit with “Augment your Pre-order.” Here’s how it works. The more people that pre-order the game, the more tiers are unlocked. In each tier, there are various goodies you can choose to “Augment your Pre-order.” There are five tiers in all, with the final tier unlocking the game four days before launch.
Well, that’s one way to boost those pre-order numbers… The trailer accompanying the announcement shows gamers are reacting negatively to it.
I don’t see the problem here. Pre-order incentives are nothing new. At least here, we don’t see any retailer-exclusive pre-order items. Yet.
Plus, it could be worse. Forza Motorsport 6 is putting five days of early access behind its Ultimate Edition ($99). Mankind Divided is not. And with the amount of day 1 patches these days, we are probably better off waiting until the “official” release date anyways.

During E3, we saw 25 minutes of gameplay.
The Deus Ex: Mankind Divided team were also on hand at Comic-Con to talk about the art and story of Mankind Divided. They touched on some of the inspiration for the art direction and story and what they ultimately want to accomplish through them.
