It’s been circling the Internet for a bit, but Jason Momoa’s audition tape for Khal Drogo, the Dothraki leader in Game of Thrones is becoming a hit today.
To say that the tape is intense would be an understatement. If you didn’t know anything about the Maori culture going in, you would think he was reading from the script. In reality, he’s performing the haka, a spiritual dance Maori warriors performed before battle.
In the thirty-five seconds, it’s easy to see why he was cast. The man was made for the part. And, you’re irritated by the fact that his character was killed off in season one.
There is a bit of a silver lining for fans of the performance. Expect there to be a flashback in season five of the series which kicks off early next year.
In other news for Jason Momoa, his plate is about to be filled with with superhero movies. He will star in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Aquaman slated for release in 2016. In 2018, he will get his standalone Aquaman movie. It seems DC is borrowing from the Marvel script when it comes to pushing movies.
At the Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta, he was finally able to talk about landing the role. Just don’t expect spoilers anytime soon.
“As a Polynesian, our gods are tied to water, so this means something special,” Momoa said. “I’m very excited to be a part of (‘Batman v Superman’). Zack Snyder is a genius.”
Below is the audition tape and a New Zealand Rugby team performing the haka pregame. It kinda makes the NFL touchdown dance look ridiculous.
