You are getting one more chance to see Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique in the X-Men franchise. The news came as she was promoting yet another movie with Bradley Cooper.

During a promotional tour, a reporter asked if X-Men: Apocalypse would be her last? “It is my last one, yes.” I get it. She has the Hunger Games franchise where she’s the titular character. In X-Men, she’s playing a secondary role.

Still, her as Mystique in X-Men: First Class is my favorite of the franchise. The entire movie blew away the previous movies, and was better than the sequel. Will Apocalypse be an appropriate send-off? Hard to judge considering the track record of ‘love ‘em or hate ‘em’ X-Men movies.

Besides, who would want to continuously have blue body makeup applied everyday on the set? It has to get old at some point.

Below is the interview (3:26) where she drops it is her last. You also see why studios insist on pairing Cooper and Lawrence in films.

X-Men Apocalypse

We do know a good deal about the upcoming blockbuster. Circle May 2016 for the release date, and it will serve as a sequel to Days of Future past. That works for me, because it keeps the cast I actually like involved in the movie.

Bryan Singer is behind the camera for the film, continuing his work on the series. There was some doubt after legal troubles emerged for the director, but he remains attached to the project.

The villain of course is Apocalypse. If you’re not a comic book reader, The Marvel Comics database lays out his origin. Now, how close the movie stays to this origin is another matter entirely.

En Sabah Nur was supposedly the first mutant, and has some serious ability. Flight, invulnerability, teleportation, superhuman strength and telekinesis. Yeah, I’m going to assume it’s going to take more than a few plastic projectiles with the mutant ‘cure’ to bring him down.

We will also see the original team in the movie, but without the original cast. That means a young Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey. Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, and Sophie Turner.

All will be in their late teens and just arriving at the Xavier school. And taking on Apocalypse.

The movie will undoubtedly be a spectacle. Everyone wants to replicate what Disney is doing with Marvel. The question is, can they pull it off? It will be the last time Jennifer Lawrence suits up in full body makeup.
