With the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser out, controversy was bound to erupt. I figured people would flip out over the claymore-styled sith lightsaber. To me, it’s beyond awesome. But no, some decided to focus on John Boyega’s character being in a stormtrooper suit.

John Boyega, a British actor, is black and so the idiot masses of the Internet started to complain. One, who ever said stormtroopers were white? Jango Fett, the person they cloned the original troopers from, was decidedly not white. So, there’s that.

Next, this film takes place 40 years after the Return of the Jedi, so let’s assume they have reached the end of the cloning banks. Even if you toss out the expanded universe as canon, the books implied the cloning system was no longer in use.

And then you have the teaser. Boyega is obviously running from something, You can hear the Imperial probe droid in the background. Yeah, go back and crank the volume. Notice the sound? Exactly.

Luckily, John Boyega has a great sense of humor about the whole thing. His response on Instagram? “Thank you for all the love and support! The fan mail…has added to my joy!”

He then added a nice dig to the idiot commenters. “To whom it may concern…Get used to it. :)”

For now, we don’t know who Boyega is portraying. I’d lean against being with the Empire, or at the very least escaping it. Please turn out as an awesome Jedi. Since its release, the Star Wars teaser has been viewed over 40 million times. Yeah, I’ve made up a sizable number of those views. What can I say? I love some Star Wars.
