Let’s make Gears of War great again! Sorry, I watched CNN this morning. The Gears of War 4 beta is right around the corner, and The Coalition wants to hear your thoughts. Most of the time, feedback is given through a game’s forums, Reddit or some other community. The Coalition is offering another way called The Gears Feedback Program.
What is it? It’s an opt-in program that lets you provide feedback directly to The Coalition. If you decide to sign up, you receive occasional emails “asking about your gaming habits and your unique perspective on Gears of War,” says The Coalition’s community manager.
These emails could range from a short survey to a Skype interview or live playtests. The Coalition stresses the feedback requests are optional.
Why the feedback program? Gears of War 4’s developer still wants you to share your thoughts on the game’s forums and other avenues. But the feedback program gives them another avenue to ask specific questions about certain mechanics or aspects of the game.
It’s easier to send out a short survey asking fans what they thought about certain weapons then reading a massive forum thread about it. The game’s forums are often more valuable for an overarching discussion about the game. While the feedback program can let the developers nail down the player base’s feeling about certain things like maps, weapons and more.
A Gears of War 4 beta kicks off on April 18 for those of you who have played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. For everyone else, the beta starts on April 25. As we get closer to the beta, The Coalition is releasing short snippets of gameplay.
The Dropshot execution fits Gears of War perfectly.
Knife execution?! Nice
Let’s end it with a vault kick to a knife execution.
What do you think? Looks like Gears to me.
You may have noticed some of the graphics and animations aren’t looking too hot. Remember, this beta is coming six months before the full game launches. Plus, odds are we are playing a build that is at least a month old. The Coalition wants to nail the ‘feel’ of Gears of War 4 and their server infrastructure. Graphics and animations will be touched up closer to launch.
I love these ‘real’ betas. The Coalition gets to show Gears fans what they’ve been up to. And we can help shape the final game while there’s still time. With six months until release, weapons can be easily tweaked, or maps can be redesigned. Entire gameplay mechanics can be changed if need be. That’s a lot harder to do if this beta was coming in September.
QA will never be able to compete with hundreds of thousands of gamers. If something’s wrong, Gears fans will find it.
What are you most excited to see in the Gears of War 4 beta? Do you want to see the up-close (shotgun) combat of previous Gears left intact, or do you want to see The Coalition try something different?
