I know I did at least three times a match. Hey, sometimes you have to suck it up and go tank or healer if no one else will. Blizzard released a bunch of stats from their Overwatch open beta today via an infographic. The takeaway? Overwatch is going to be huge.
More than 9.7 million players played 4.9 billion minutes. Yes. Billion. That equals 9,380 years of gaming. And the players spanned the world from more than 190 countries worldwide. We completed 37,623,607 matches. Woah. Blizzard is about to make dump truck loads of money. Shocking, I know.
Who was your favorite hero?
If the answer is Soldier 76, Widowmaker, Reinhardt or Mercy – you’re in good company. Those were the most picked heroes by class. I don’t know if I have a ‘favorite’ hero. Probably Hanzo, Genji, Mercy, Reinhardt and Mei. Those were the ones I played the best with. Hell, there are still a few I haven’t even tried yet.
Bastion might piss you off, but you’ll be happy to know we all killed him 326 million times.
The latest Overwatch cinematic highlighted Hanzo and Genji. Did you see a ton of Dragonstrikes heading your way during the open beta? You weren’t alone. Hanzo’s ultimate was deployed 62.5 million times. Some of you might have even deflected it with Genji.
Genji’s Dragonblades came in at 50.3 million. You can check out a handful of other stats below.
New animation short coming Sunday
We’ll all be getting our Overwatch fix in just four days. On Sunday, Blizzard will release the fourth and final animated short called Hero. From Blizzard:
“Hero” follows the masked vigilante Soldier: 76 on a personal mission to Dorado where he’s set to investigate the illegal activities of the Los Muertos gang—but an unexpected complication threatens to compromise his objective.
Head to Overwatch’s YouTube channel on May 22 at 10 a.m. PT to catch the short.
Overwatch’s cast expanding to 22?
That’s the rumor. Fans have been piecing together clues of a 22nd hero over the past few months. The character’s name is Sombra and is believed to be a support sniper. Here’s a NeoGAF post that compiled all the evidence and it makes a compelling case.
Evidence centers around Solider: 76 and Sombra clashing. And with the next short centered around Soldier: 76, there’s a good chance we are about to see a new hero.
Which hero did you play the most during the Overwatch beta? Also, which animated short do you like the best? That Hanzo/Genji one with the ultimates was fantastic.
