Star Wars: Battlefront is not a Battlefield game. I have to keep telling myself that. I see DICE developing it, and I just can’t help but assume all the great features of Battlefield are coming to Star Wars: Battlefront.

Well, it’s clear that is not happening. Yesterday’s news of no server browser is a blow for every Battlefield fan. DICE is opting for skill-based matchmaking instead. A Reddit user asked if there will be a server browser on consoles. A community manager responded, “Star Wars Battlefront will not offer a server browser, but will utilize a new skill-based matchmaking system.”

Long-time PC shooter fans and Battlefield fans didn’t take well to that response. And they shouldn’t. DICE developed shooters have had a server browser as a feature for a long time in their Battlefield games across all platforms.

A server browser gives us choice

Do you want to play only certain large maps on a certain game mode? Maybe you like playing only infantry-focused maps. A server browser gives you that choice. Most of us have used a server browser in a Battlefield game at some point. Who doesn’t like jumping into a 24/7 Operation Locker server for an all-night mayhem fest?

Instead, we are stuck with a “new skill based matchmaking system.” No more details on this system were given.

Look, I’m a DICE fan and a Star Wars fan. When I heard DICE was developing Star Wars: Battlefront, I thought it was a match made in heaven. But, they are making it hard to justify dropping $60. There’s no story mode. And now there’s no server browser. At least the gameplay looks epic.

Maybe the reaction from fans will get DICE to reconsider on the server browser. If you do reach out to DICE developers, don’t be a douche. Not having a server browser sucks, but it isn’t the end of the world.

In October, we’ll all get to try Star Wars: Battlefront before it releases on November 17. The beta will be a technical test and will feature Walker Assault and Drop Zone on Hoth. You and a friend can also try out the Survival Mission on Tatooine.

I probably know what you think about the lack of a server browser, but is the news affecting your decision to buy the game? Let me know in the comments below.
