Xbox fans, especially Halo fans, were in for a treat earlier this week. The Halo Master Chief Collection was unveiled and will include Halo’s 1-4, plus the multiplayer modes from each one. All playable on Xbox Live.

Nearly 100 multiplayer maps, plus Halo 4’s Spartan Ops mode. 343 Industries isn’t stopping there. Included in the Collection will be beta access to Halo 5: Guardians.

Today, we found out when the beta starts. We will all get our first taste of Halo 5: Guardians on December 27th. According to Halo Waypoint (look at the bottom page), the beta will last from December 27 through January 22.

It looks like 343 Industries is launching a true beta test for Halo 5: Guardians. The next chapter of Master Chief’s story isn’t expected to release until the second half of 2015. A beta this early should give the developers time to fix any issues with the game and add features suggested by the community.

Check out the first trailer for Halo 5: Guardians below. It’s CG, but we get a glimpse at a couple of new features that will be coming to the Halo 5’s multiplayer.
