For $200, Amazon Echo can be yours. What is it? It’s basically an AI assistant, plus a high-end speaker.

Echo provides info on music, news and weather all controlled by your voice. Echo also plays music, acts as an alarm and can even be your personal spell checker.

“Echo’s brain is in the cloud, running on Amazon Web Services so it continually learns and adds more functionality over time,” the company says on its website.

Echo’s speaker is also handy as a portable sound system. It provides hands-free voice control for Amazon Music, Prime Music, iHeartRadio and TuneIn. Plus, Spotify, iTunes and Pandora through Bluetooth from your phone or tablet.

Amazon Echo costs $199, but Prime members can get it for $99 for a limited time. Getting one isn’t as easy as one-click buy. You’ll need an invitation. Head on over to the Echo’s website to request one.

Echo’s a cool gadget, but I just don’t see the point in having one. Everything it does can be done with the phone in your pocket. Still, if I had the money to blow – I would probably have one sitting right here beside me.
