At this point, if Apple’s iPhone 8 or X doesn’t have an OLED screen, people will riot. Rumors upon reports continually say the anniversary edition of the iPhone in 2017 will finally cave and give people the OLED screen. Here’s the latest from Nikkei Asian Review:
The upcoming iPhone, to be launched this fall, will come in three configurations — two with liquid crystal displays and one with a 5.8-inch organic light-emitting diode display. By adding more large-screen options to the lineup to meet growing demand for BIG, Apple intends to raise the average iPhone price, which has already gone up by about 10% in the past three years to nearly $700.
Wait, did you say organic light-emitting diode display? Now I want to watch the unveil just for Jony Ive’s video. Here’s the iPhone 7/Plus design video courtesy of Sir Jony Ive.
Come on, you know it’s going to be completely over the top. Toss in the British accent and damn you for making me spend a grand on a phone. I mean, Apple bathed it in a milk bath after polishing each to remove imperfections. Expect for the jet black…
In September he gets an edgeless OLED screen? 5.8-inches of screen real estate with the footprint of the regular iPhone 7? Watch out Apple fans. Jony is ready to lay claim to creating the next evolution in Apple. Vibrant colors light our way to pure bliss as long as you ignore your phone bill
Jony Ive’s video is set to be completely over-the-top but in a way which makes you want an iPhone 8. Please don’t call the damn thing a Pro. iPhone X is good and prevents consumers wondering why the hell they are looking at two 7S models and an 8.
Latest iPhone Rumors
The Nikkei quote above looks solid. Now the question is do we start to see the more outlandish rumors make their way into the iPhone 8. Wireless charging? Maybe, but it could be a conductive pad. Not very Apple-like and I’d prefer waiting on true wireless charging.
Apple is dropping the home button and has already trained users based on the iPhone 7 not actually being a button. The click you feel is haptic feedback. What’s next is an embedded sensor for Touch ID. Or, they could use facial biometrics thanks to the acquisition of RealFace. One step closer to Minority Report.
Augmented reality is expected to see a big push with rumors swirling the phone may introduce certain functions to help developers. Would be sweet if the next Apple Watch got in that game.
And then the camera. Apple had one hell of a winner with the dual lens in the iPhone 7 Plus. Now, how the hell do you improve on it and shove it into the iPhone 7 form factor? It’s hard to imagine the company ceding ground in the smartphone photography war.
Good news is everything leaks now. We will have a good idea of what the iPhone 8 can and can’t do before the conference. I miss the good ole days of ‘one more thing.’
